Waking up the media rage against Rogan for saying the obvious

The truth hurts, and there’s nothing funny about it.

Astute observers know that Hollywood no longer makes the killer comedies it used to. Over the years, “Saturday Night Live” has had hits like “Caddyshack,” “Stripes,” “Step Brothers” and more. Many of the movies mentioned have been rated R, and for a very good reason.

They quickly established themselves as an integral part of pop-culture lore and became box office inspiration.

So what happened?

Joe Rogan thinks wakefulness killed comedy on the big screen, and he said exactly that in a chat with Tom Papa comics earlier this week. He even helps explain why horror movies are getting rarer or overblown like 2019 flops.”Smart book. ”

“There is a strange thing that happens when you are mocking something… it is supposed to be an endorsement of that activity, even if it is completely unacceptable,” says Rogan.

He’s right.

That doesn’t stop both sides Uproxx and Mediaite from lying to Rogan for saying the obvious. Rogan later “fact-checked”, taking one of his comments literally (he said “Hangover” was the ultimate great R-rated comedy, a 100% subjective line) :

Blockbuster comedies, including irreverent films like Booksmart, 21 Jump Street and many Adam McKay films, have clearly been in the works since 2009.

“Booksmart” resonated at the box office. Also, it’s not disrespectful from afar, except not alert enough.

McKay’s recent films (“Evil behavior“”Don’t look up“) Are political articles with a laugh that is approved by the group’s thinking. The movie “Jump Street” is 8 and 10 years old, respectively. The wake-up revolution flourished about 4-5 years ago.

LADBible piled up on Rogan, also, using the line “applause” to describe his online critics.

Rogan’s position remained unchallenged, although both sides objected to Rogan without grasping the full context of his comments. And that’s because they can’t. Plus, the numbers favor him.

Last year, two comedies made the Top 10 at the box office – “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and “Free Guy”. The previous film was very light on the comedy genre, leaning more towards sci-fi action and nostalgia. The Following is one of the real big-screen comedies to hook up with in recent years.

Both are PG:13 and completely safe. Rogan never said that PG comedies were under attack.

Last year, hit hard by COVID-19, found an action comedy, “Bad Boys for Life”, topping the box office charts. The rest of this year’s shows are either comical (“Sonic the Hedgehog”) or box office disappointments like the bust “Dolittle.”

In 2019, the only R-rated pure comedy to rank was “Good Boys”… at number 34. “Game Night” marks the highest R-rated comedy of 2018… no. 43.

Comedies are rated more highly than superhero movies, although the majority of such projects are rated PG: 13. The oddly recognizable “Deadpool” brand is the exception.

Comedy transformation can be viewed in other ways.

The main players that once blew us away have either moved into other genres or struggled to maintain the dominance of the comedy genre.

The Farrelly brothers no longer direct mainstream comedies like “Stuck on You,” “Kingpin” or “There Something About Mary.” Todd Phillips, the unofficial king of R-rated movies, is currently leading movies like “Joker.” Phillips even blamed the wake-up restrictions into his professional shift.

Will Ferrell, who has “mentored” some of the best modern comedies, has struggled with recent setbacks like “Holmes & Watson”, “The House” and “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga”.

“Saturday Night Live” once catapulted older adults into comedian stars on the big screen (Eddie Murphy, Ferrell, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd). The far left socket is no longer available. Sure, recent “SNL” players like Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig make regular appearances on the big screen, but where are the solo hits?

Amy Schumer is a prime example of why comedians are reluctant to star in irreverent roles.

The comedian woke up being slammed for her back-to-back comedies -“Shocked” and “I feel pretty.“She hasn’t posted a comedy since then, retreating to Hulu to tell a more personal story,” said Life & Beth. “

Some media outlets are reluctant to admit it Comedy is much harder to do in today’s waking world. Time and Collider both lamented the scarcity of new TV sitcoms and hits on the silver screen last year, respectively.

In addition, it is acknowledged that comedies like “Animal house“”Yen is burning“And”The Bad News Bears” cannot be done today. Doesn’t that strengthen Rogan’s argument?

It’s a fact that the waking media won’t admit. Otherwise, they will realize that they have lost the argument.
