For context, on September 15, Latto brought to X (formerly Twitter) and challenged fans to create videos for her song ‘Brokey,’ which debuted on her latest album, ‘Sugar Honey Iced Tea.’ The challenge was Latto’s response to people criticizing the financial privileges she brags about in her lyrics.

“I hate that y’all think I’m calling hard working people broke. So I’m paying $10,000 to whoever makes the best video at their workplace for broke people & I’ll fly you in to be in a music video… no need to wait for your birthday to go out of town. Tag me & hashtag #Brokey so I can see it all.”

Less than a week ago, Yadira shared a 27-second video of more than five Waffle House employees, including herself, taking on the Latto challenge. In six days, the clip has garnered more than 23.4 million views, more than 3.7 million likes, and nearly 19,000 comments. Its creativity really caught TikTok users’ attention, from the ‘Brokey’ receipt to the employees using WH’s signature foods, like waffles, as props for the video.

Yadira only appears in the video at the 16th second to mumble the lyrics, “Yeah, I talk bullshit. He likes who you think you are…” The video then cuts to another employee.

“A day after posting a video that really didn’t hurt anybody. People were really, really supportive and happy about it. But regardless, it was my decision, it was my move…” Yadira said, claiming that Waffle House had placed her on a “do not rehire” list.

Ramirez also said she worked at the restaurant for six years from the age of 16 to 22. “Thanks for all the crap I’ve dealt with,” she added.
