Volvo plans sedans and electric wagons after SUVs
Volvo CEO Jim Rowan has said that sedans and electric wagons could appear in markets where they make sense.
Swedish luxury car brand Volvo has confirmed that it will work on sedans and electric wagons after launching several electric SUVs. There is no specific time frame for the launch of sedans and electric wagons from the automaker, but certain conditions will inevitably arise, Volvo CEO Jim Rowan said. He also suggested that this strategy will be implemented in the coming years as there is demand from certain markets.

After the introduction Volvo Rechargeable XC40 and C40 Recharge, the EX90 is the latest model in the group to come in the form of an all-electric SUV. The Volvo EX90 was recently announced and is expected to launch in 2023. Volvo remains tight-lipped about its next electric vehicle project. However, Rowan took some initiatives in an interview with Autocar, saying that sedans and wagons will play an important role in Volvo’s electric lineup for the foreseeable future. He also said the company is trying to capture the different requirements of customers. “Our strategy is that we’re going to be tight. We’re going to look at the demographics that we think are reasonable. We’ve teased what’s coming next, and we’ve signaled that we are.” going to make a smaller SUV. Then different formats, salons and real estate or whatever: we’ll get there when we get there,” he said.
Speaking about its product strategy, Rowan said the platform and sharing of technology between electric vehicles will play an important role in bringing down the cost of electric vehicles in the coming years. He said that the price parity between ICE vehicles and BEVs is important. “There’s no industry that can rely on subsidies for a long time,” says Rowan. “You have to make sure you’re comparable.”
The Volvo EX90 flagship electric SUV is built on the new SPA2 architecture. The automaker is also working on a smaller EV platform called the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). This modular platform is being jointly developed by Volvo and Geely for smaller electric vehicles.
