MANILA, Philippines – Tine Urnaut and Rok Mozic lifted Slovenia past Argentina, 25-20, 27-29, 25-18, 25-17 in the National Volleyball League (VNL) on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Slovenia captain Urnaut, leading with 19 points from 17 kills and two aces, has nine digs and nine takes, while Mozic brings home 17 points including three intercepts for the top win. their first leg in Quezon City.

Jan Kozamernik and Ziga Stern each contributed 9 points as the Slovenians improved to 3-3, beating Germany and the Netherlands.

“We are happy with the way we played. We need to continue like this,” Urnaut said.

The Slovenian scored a brace for European champions Italy on Saturday.

“I think they are playing very well. They have a lot of young, good players. I knew them in the Italian league. It will definitely be a difficult match,” said Mozic, who plays for Verona club.

“We have to fight. This is a very important win for us. Tomorrow we have some rest and leave everything we can against Italy and try to bring in three more points,” he added.

The Slovenians squandered a 24-20 second lead, letting the Argentinians finish the match one set each. But they showed strong composure in the third and fourth sets to end the game.

Luciano Vicentin leads Argentina with 13 points, including two servings, seven receptions and four deep dives while Agustin Loser, Bruno Lima and Ezequiel Palacios each have 12 points.

The Argentinians lost for the fifth time in six matches.
