VNL: Argentina beats China, halts four-match skid
MANILA, Philippines – Argentina secured their first win in the first leg of Quezon City after a 25-22, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22 victory over China in the National Volleyball League at the Smart Araneta Coliseum .
Bruno Lima came through with 25 points, including three blocks and two aces, and five peaches while Agustin Loser and Ezequiel Palacios each had 13 points for the Argentinians, who drew their victims with a score of 2 -5.
The win also ended Argentina’s four-match unbeaten streak since week 1 in Ottawa, Canada.
“We are very happy about this. We worked all these days here in the Philippines and in the end we won. We have to enjoy this moment and focus on the next game,” said Palacios, who also has eight receptions and six diggings.
Zhang Jingyin overtook the Chinese with 18 points, 8 receptions and 5 diggings, while Wang Jingyi got 14 kills.
China finally played its first match in the country after lost due to missing won the gold medal for the Tokyo Olympics, France due to health and safety protocols on Wednesday and won against Germany, that refuses to appear in their match on Thursday.
However, the Argentinians were challenged by the Chinese, as evidenced by the near-identical set scores.
“China is a very strong opponent. They played very well. It was a very tight match. I think some moments we played better and that’s why we won. It was a very good match,” said Loser.
