Viral video: Tesla Model Y goes out of control in China and kills two


A viral video showing a Tesla Model Y The electric car that lost control on a busy street went viral on social media. The incident is believed to have taken place in Guangdong province, southern China. Reports suggest that the Model Y started to malfunction after the driver tried to park the car, the EV’s parking button failed to work, instead it started accelerating and the brakes are said to have stopped working. The incident happened on November 5 and two people were killed.

In CCTV footage captured from the location, Model Y can be seen slowing down to make a parking maneuver before suddenly accelerating and flying down the road. The vehicle can be seen nearly missing several pedestrians and vehicles before hitting a cyclist and crashing into a tricycle and a building. According to reports, a motorcyclist and a female high school student were killed in the accident.
The driver alleged that the Model Y’s brakes were unresponsive at the time, and Chinese police are investigating the matter. Meanwhile, as reported by Reuters, Tesla claims that its data shows no brake input was recorded during the crash. Police are currently seeking a third-party assessment of the crash and the matter is under investigation.
