Viral video reveals why 3.5-star rated Asian restaurants are the best

Eating out is no longer a random thing, but it must be planned and methodical. Gone are the days when we decided where to eat based on our moods, whims, and fantasies. In the post-COVID era, every time we go out to dinner – nothing is perfect. A common practice among foodies is to check restaurants on popular dining and rating apps. It is generally considered that the higher the rating of a restaurant above five stars, the better the restaurant is. However, a man recently explained that for authentic Asian restaurants – those with a 3.5 star rating would actually be the best. Wonder what he meant? Watch this viral video to understand his interesting theory:

The video was shared on Twitter by user Freddie Wong (@fwong). It went viral with over 3.8 million views, 141k likes and 16k retweets in just 24 hours. “I only eat at Chinese restaurants that get 3.5 stars on Yelp,” he revealed in the caption.

In the viral video, Freddie Wong reveals that the best Chinese or Asian restaurants in most metropolitan cities have ratings of exactly 3 and a half stars. “Three and a half stars to be exact. Not three, not four. Three and a half stars is the hot spot for authentic Chinese food,” he says in the video. He then went on to give examples of famous restaurants in his city. When the restaurant got 2.5 stars, he said it was too bad. On the contrary, when the restaurant reached 4 stars, he felt that he was liked by too many people because the service was average but the food was average. However, in the case of a restaurant with a 3.5 star rating, this means that the food is good but the service is average. As a result, Asian restaurants end up being rated lower by people but actually serve better food.

Looking for a good Chinese place in your neighborhood? This restaurant rating theory might be helpful.

“Here’s my theory. Cultural expectations for service vary in Asia. They’re not proactive, they won’t come to you, you need to beat the waiters. However, people do. are taking down these restaurants because their service sucks. Wong says in his video, the food balances it out. “That’s how you give them three and a half points. That’s the sweet spot. Trust me,” he concluded.

Several Twitter users reacted to the viral video about why restaurants with three-and-a-half star ratings are ideal. “I never thought about this before. This makes a lot of sense,” said one user while another wrote, “In all my visits to Hong Kong, I feel very inclined. tend to agree with his assessment.” A few others also added: “Make this guy the new king”. Food delivery app DoorDash also responded to the viral video.
