Vin Scully passed away at the age of 94
Legendary MLB broadcaster Vin Scully has passed away at the age of 94, according to Los Angeles Dodgers.
“He is the voice of the Dodgers and much more. He is their conscience, their title of poet, capturing their beauty and capturing their glory from Jackie Robinson to Sandy Koufax, Kirk Gibson to Clayton Kershaw,” the Dodgers wrote.
“Vin Scully is the heartbeat of the Dodgers – and in many ways the heartbeat of Los Angeles. ”
Scully, born November 29, 1927, called the Dodgers game for 67 seasons, starting in 1950 when the franchise was located in Brooklyn, New York. Notably, he replaced Ernie Harwell as the voice of the Dodgers. Harwell, a broadcasting icon who later became the legendary vocalist of the Detroit Tigers.
Along with Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Kirk Gibson, and Clayton Kershaw, Scully is known for games featuring great characters like Dusty Baker, Hideo Nomo, and Tommy John, among others.
“We lost an icon,” said Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten. “The Dodgers’ Vin Scully is one of the greatest voices in all of sports. He’s a huge human being, not only as a broadcaster but as a humanitarian.”
