Veteran Tollywood actor Krishna who suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday passed away at around 4am this morning in Hyderabad.
Doctors said Mr Krishna, 80, was taken to the hospital’s emergency department at 1:15 a.m. Monday in a state of cardiac arrest.
They said CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) was performed immediately and he was transferred to the ICU for treatment and monitoring. The actor’s condition is said to be very critical and he is being treated with a ventilator.
Mr. Krishna, originally Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna Murthy, acted in 350 films and was one of the leading actors of his time. He is also a successful director and producer. He was honored with Padma Bhushan in 2009.
Krishna is the father of actor Mahesh Babu and father-in-law of TDP leader Jay Galla. He served in Parliament and became an MP in the 1980s but left politics after the death of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
His wife and Mahesh Babu’s mother Indira Devi passed away in September this year. His eldest son Ramesh Babu died in January. Actress Vijaya Nirmala, his second wife, passed away in 2019.
