Vedanta Resources President Anil Agarwal said on Saturday that production at its display and semiconductor manufacturing unit in Gujarat will begin within two and a half years of the groundbreaking ceremony.

Semiconductor chips, used in cars, mobile phones and other electronic devices, are not currently manufactured in India.

Speaking at the HT Leadership Summit, Agarwal said “My heart and soul are in it and the way the government is supporting, the state government is supporting… I have no doubt that within two year and a half (production ground breaking ceremony) will begin).” Earlier, a joint venture of Indian conglomerate Vedanta and Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government to establish a display and semiconductor manufacturing unit in the state. this.

Vedanta-Foxconn will invest Rs 1,54,000 crore to set up base in Gujarat which will create one thousand job opportunities, Minister Bhupendra Patel said after the MoU was signed.

Of the total investment of Rs 1,54,000 crore, Rs 94,000 will be used to set up the display unit, while Rs 60,000 will be invested in the semiconductor production facility.

Agarwal said that a scientific plan has been put in place for the plant.

Claims that an independent committee, consisting of very good consultants, has traveled to 5 to 6 states and is not involved in a site for the factory, finding that Gujarat is the best choice, as it have the right atmosphere and also provide better facilities for the unit.

“We are putting (the factory) there (in Gujarat),” he explains.

“We have reached Maharashtra… Downstream Maharashtra will be set to be bigger than Gujarat,” explained Mr. Agarwal.
