Via Allan Fox: Vasyl Lomachenko criticized superstar Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis for never “confronting” with “top boxers” in his career.
Lomachenko says he’s never seen former triple world champion Tank Davis (27-0.25 KOs) fight a top boxer and he’d like to see him start at this stage of his career. .
Tank is 27 years old but he still faces mild opposition like Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero and the likes of Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, Mario, Mario Barrios, Yuriorkis Gamboa and Leo Santa Cruz.
While Santa Cruz was an excellent boxer, his best weight class late in his career was 126, and he didn’t stand a chance to fight the much larger Tank Davis.
Gervonta’s pitchers at Mayweather Promotions have carefully matched him throughout his entire career, keeping him away from opponents who could beat him like Lomachenko, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson .
At this point, it’s unlikely Mayweather Promotions will change the way they take on Tank Davis as he’s arguably the only big earner in their cage.
If he was consistently beaten by quality opponents, they wouldn’t have any other gladiators that could deliver great success.
“He is [Tank Davis] never fight top, warriors top. [Isaac] Cruz, before this game, I had never heard of him. I never knew about him, but now he deserves his place in a top game. I don’t see Davis having a good fight in 135 lbs; I have never seen it,” Vasyl Lomachenko told ESNEWS about Gervonta ‘The Tank’ Davis.
“He is a boxer who understands boxing and knows what he needs to do in the ring. Again, I wanted to meet him with a top boxer, top of our weight class,” said Lomachenko.
It can be doubted that Mayweather Promotions will change the way they deal with Tank Davis because they don’t have a deep barn. The biggest risk they’ll face with the Tank is that by pairing him with the heavily flawed Ryan Garcia, which is a chip shot for him. It was a lower level fighter than Isaac Cruz.
We’ve seen how horribly flawed Tank Davis is lately, as he barely beat slugger Pitbull Cruz and wrestled with Barrios, Santa Cruz & Rolly. Based on those performances, Tank would have no chance of beating Lomachenko or Shakur Stevenson.
Tank’s boxing isn’t good enough for him to beat either of them, and he’ll likely lose to Regis Prograis, Jose Zepeda and Jose Ramirez at 140.
