Varanasi exhibits initiatives to reduce carbon emission | India News


VARANASI: This year as the G20 presidency joins India, a CNG-powered boat rally was flagged by Union Oil and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at Namo Ghat in Varanasi on Sunday as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to cut India’s carbon emissions.

Indian Energy Week follows the Prime Minister’s pledge at COP26 to cut India’s emissions to zero by 2070. As part of this proposed event in Bengaluru, CNG a boat rally was held in Varanasi to show how PM’s vision led to the conversion of highly polluting diesel engines to CNG engines on boats floating on the Ganga River in Varanasi,” Puri said more.
The second floating CNG station will appear at Ravidas Ghat as the first station is already operating at Namo Ghat.
“Prime Minister Modi’s desire is to replace diesel boats with CNG,” he added, adding, “It is nice to see that more than 580 diesel boats have been converted to CNG resulting in increased boaters income in addition to controlling carbon emissions. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Oil Minister Rameshwar Teli called the CNG boat demonstration an exhibition on India’s culture, heritage and energy transition.
UP Energy Minister AK Sharma expressed gratitude to the Indian government’s oil and natural gas for the project to convert diesel boats into CNG boats and also promote green energy in the state. He assured that the state government will continue to expand any support for business projects in the future.
Then, with the lowering of Puri’s flag, the regatta begins from Namo Ghat. After passing through Dashashwamedh Ghat, it culminates at Chetsingh Ghat, where a laser show is also held to mark the occasion.
