VARANASI: The district court in Varanasi on Friday adjourned the hearing in Gyanvapi and scheduled for October 11.
The court will announce its ruling on a claim filed by the Hindu side asking for the carbon dating of the structure it believes to be Shivling found inside the wuzu khana of the Gyanvapi Mosque.
A dense police force was deployed outside the court grounds ahead of the crucial trial.
The four women suing in the Gyanvapi-Shrinagar Gauri mosque case sought scientific investigation and carbon dating to determine the Shivling’s nature and age.
The Hindu side has claimed that they found a shimmer in the mosque’s pond when the survey was conducted.
The court reserved the order in the case of Gyanvapi Mosque-Shringar Gauri on September 29 after hearing the arguments of both sides.
The Muslim side in the complex Gyanvapi-Shringar Gauri mosque case has filed an application with the court in response to the appeal of the Hindu plaintiffs for carbon dating of the ‘Shivling’.
Carbon dating is a scientific process of determining the age of an archaeological object or archaeological find.
On September 22, the Hindu side requested carbon dating and other scientific tests of the Shivling-like structure.
This was opposed not only by the Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid Committee of the Muslim faction, but also by the number one plaintiff, Rakhi Singh of the Hindu faction.
Lawyers filed an objection in court that carbon dating would damage the structure.
