Vanessa Bryant awarded $16 million in crash photo lawsuit
Vanessa Bryant was awarded $16 million on Wednesday by a federal grand jury in her case against Los Angeles County.
Bryant, who co-plaints with Chris Chester in her lawsuit, has sue the county over first responders who shared photos site of the crash where her husband Kobe and daughter, Gianna, died in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
Bryant argued that the LA County sheriff and fire department officers who took the photos and circulated them among friends caused her mental distress and invaded her privacy. Although these photos are not circulating publicly, Bryant said knowing they exist and are being shared privately is extremely troubling for her.
The trial of the case lasted 11 days. The jury spent 4.5 hours deliberating before reaching their decision on Wednesday.
In addition to the monetary prize for Bryant, Chester was also awarded $15 million.
Nine people died in the January 26, 2020, crash, including Chester’s wife and daughter.
