Valve tests new Steam mobile app: Changes and other details


Steam is a digital distribution service for video games and is also a store owned by Valve which has been available as one of the platforms for PC games for a while. Valve’s desktop app is very popular, however, the mobile platform for the same app is not that remarkable.
However, this situation is expected to change in the coming days as the company is launching a new version of Steam Mobile App currently available to a small number of beta testers. Valve has updated the post section on the official Steam website to announce the beta mobile app release. The company mentions that it has updated the app with “a new framework and modernized design.”
New changes coming to Steam mobile app
Valve has confirmed that the app is undergoing a major overhaul but users will still be allowed to do things like – browse the store, get Steam Guard code and confirm the transaction. Along with this new change, the latest update will also add several improvements to the user experience including – smarter notification system, new Steam authenticator, multi-account support, improved improved gallery view, enhanced transaction confirmation, custom gallery-based news feed, and better store browsing.

According to a report by Android Authorization, a limited beta app for Android that has streamlined the user interface and made it easier to find notifications. The report also mentions that the login method has also been simplified and the app now allows the option to sign in with a QR code.
Why Valve needs to update the Steam mobile app
According to the article, the company explained the reason behind the mobile app update. Valve says it asks invested Steam users to try something out and provide feedback. Feedback helps the company test its assumptions, learn what users like and dislike, and figure out what needs to be fixed. The company mentions that feedback is “especially important” when the app is available for a variety of phones and devices.
How to Try the Improved Steam Mobile App
The Steam mobile app is available for both Android and iPhone users. Furthermore, Valve has also encouraged users to download and test the improved app and, ultimately, provide feedback. Android users will receive a link to join the beta from the Google Play Store.

On the other hand, iOS users will need to install AppleTestFlight’s first app will automatically install the beta app. However, Valve also notes that Apple’s guidelines limit iOS beta participants to 10,000, and those positions fill up quickly. The company has also mentioned that more slots will be added as the beta progresses, so users need to keep checking to see if slots are full.
