Usyk: Undisputed would be a big statement

WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk said that being the undisputed champion in the second weight class would be a ‘huge statement’.

The former undisputed cruiser class champion became a two-weight world champion by dethroning unified heavyweight king Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September.

Since then, the Ukrainian says his life has changed, but his motivations have not.

“My life has changed, but my rules have not. I still live by my own principles and standards,” Usyk told Forbes. “In terms of recognition, yes. I went to a few European countries after the victory and a lot of people came to me.

“My mental state was as good before the Joshua fight as after. I always know what I’m aiming for. I went straight to my goal. Of course, it can change.

“That’s how everything is. Victory happens and people are changing, and that’s their right. However, I feel before Joshua that I will continue to work with a state of preparedness.

Should outgoing Usyk win a contract-bound rematch with Joshua, an undisputed showdown with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury could be next.

“If I get those four belts, that would be a huge statement from me,” Usyk said.
