Via Jim Calfa: Oleksandr Usyk says he will beat Tyson Fury when the two meet for the undisputed heavyweight title later this year.
If Usyk fights Fury the way he did with Anthony Joshua last Saturday, he has a great chance of beating him. Usyk’s mobility and IQ will play a big part against the big 6’9″ Fury, as he’s never fought anyone as skilled as he is.
WBC champ Fury took to social media last Saturday night, saying he’s ready to fight Usyk or Joshua next.
As long as Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) doesn’t judge himself from the fight, we should consider him and Usyk combining it with all four belts on the road.
IBF, WBA & WBO champion Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) overcame his final formidable hurdle by defeating Joshua (24-3, 22 KOs) in a 12-round decider on Thursday night Seven weeks ago in their rematch.
“This is what I dream about every day. I will beat one of his,” Usyk said at post-war press conference about fighting Tyson Fury.
Obviously, this is not someone Fury wants to fight. He hopes that Joshua will win so he can fight him in a big money match in the UK.
“He played a great fight, but it was only Usyk’s brilliance in the tenth, eleventh and twelfth rounds that won him,” said Eddie Hearn. iFL TV.
“I can’t believe him [Usyk] came back after the ninth game, but it shows you what an incredible fighter he is. A few people supported Joshua. I feel he lost two rounds, but when the score is 115-113, it’s a turn of the half or two, and you can see it the other way around.
“I was at AJ level or higher at the end of the ninth round, but then I let Usyk win the last three innings. I think he’s unbelievable. I thought the 10th half was one of the great performances.
“On the ninth, Usyk was everywhere; he was seriously injured. He went back to his corner. I ran over because I saw Usyk had returned to his corner. He looked like he could finish, but what Usyk did in the tenth inning was unbelievable, and that’s why he’s #1 pound-for-pound,” Hearn said.
