Via Robert Segal: Oleksandr Usyk seems displeased with the news that Tyson Fury will likely defend his WBC heavyweight title against the next Anthony Joshua.
Although unified champion Usyk insists he is not upset about Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) being able to fight former two-time world champion Joshua on December 3 in the UK , but his reaction suggests otherwise.
It seems Usyk would rather Fury wait until the two meet for the title in February or March than enter a risky bout where he could lose to Joshua in December.
There is a rematch clause for the Fury-Joshua bout, meaning that if Fury is defeated, the two will meet in a second clash in 2023.
As for Usyk, he will have to wait for the smoke to clear for two fights between Fury and AJ and then face the last person standing.
“I am not making up. The bigger problem is that Fury doesn’t show fans one of the best fights in boxing history,” Oleksandr Usyk said to RingTVreact to Tyson Fury’s likely fight with Anthony Joshua in December.
“It was his fault. Not mine. It’s not right from the point of view of sportsmanship.”
As you can see, Usyk isn’t thrilled at the prospect of Fury fighting Joshua next, and you can’t blame him.
WBC to sanction Fury vs. Joshua
“It seems close. I’m following the news just like you, and it seems very possible. It will be a sensational war to end, it’s a historic year,” WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Secondsout about the fight between Fury and Joshua.
“Tyson Fury is currently free to voluntarily defend. He did the required thing in April [against Dillian Whyte]. We will receive notices from advertisers in April and then we will sanction the fight.
“It will be huge. It has a great potential to be realized. If it happens, it will be one of the biggest events in boxing history,” said Sulaiman of the Fury-Joshua clash. Not only in the UK but overall because of the factors it brings.
“It brings in the best fans from the UK. It brings in two giant men, very famous for the social media they carry. It’s as big as it can be,” says Sulaiman.
