US ‘Saysh closes $8 million Series A round led by Iris, Athleta



Saysh, the US-based community-centric lifestyle brand co-founded by Olympian Allyson Felix and her brother Wes Felix, has announced the end of its Series A round at $8 million, due to the fund. Iris professional consumer and Gap performance lifestyle brand, Athleta leads. Other additional investors in the round include Redpoint Ventures and Springbank Collective.

Saysh will use the new funding to scale up its e-commerce, community-based wholesale and retail distribution, which the founders see as a huge growth opportunity. The investment will also support an expanded product offering and the launch of several new activity-specific sneakers. Through the brand’s existing platform, it was able to successfully test various ideas and concepts to inform their product portfolio in the future, the company said in a press release. .

Additionally, Springbank Collective, an early investor in infrastructure for working women and their families, has assembled a valuable group of angel investors to support Saysh through Means Special Purpose. Participants include Anne-Marie Slaughter, a world-renowned policy and gender expert; Kerin Hempel, CEO of New York Road Runners; and Sabia Wade, founder of The Black Doula and black maternal health advocate. As an official advisor to the Springbank Collective, Allyson is passionate about their mission for a more equal future.

The 50% early-stage female team at Redpoint, an industry venture capital fund that has successfully invested in companies like Netflix and Sonos, also participated in the funding round. A longtime sponsored athlete, Allyson decided to leave a sportswear giant after it tried to cut her salary while she was pregnant with her first child. Forced to choose between motherhood and a professional athlete gave birth to Saysh, a brand that represents hope, acceptance and the power to create change. Saysh continues to advocate for improved maternity leave for athletes and working mothers, as well as better access to health care services for Black mothers.

Saysh’s vision is a future in which inequality is destroyed by women’s creativity and sport. This Series A funding round, as well as their recently announced first Maternity Return Policy, further support this vision.
