US Marines shoot down Russian helicopter

U.S. Marines conducted air defense training near Yuma, Arizona.

The Marines have revealed that the Marines with Ground-Based Air Defense, Marine Air Weapons, and Tactical Squadron One (MAWTS-1) conducted a course of Weapons and Tactics Training (WTI). 2-22, at Auxiliary Airport II, near Yuma, Arizona.

WTI is a seven-week training event organized by MAWTS-1 that provides standardized advanced tactical training and unit instructor qualification to support training and readiness. maritime aviation, and assist in the development and use of aviation weapons and tactics.


The Marines are also trained with the FIM-92 Stinger light air defense system to shoot down Russian-made helicopters, including the Russian-made Mi-24 Hind.

The fused missile was introduced to the unit in the mid-1970s. It was one of the first low-altitude surface-to-air missiles of its time.
