US Air Force Aircraft Lands In Bengaluru With NASA-ISRO Satellite
Bangalore:
In an important step towards strengthening the US-India relationship in civil-space cooperation, a US air force transport aircraft carrying NASA – ISRO satellites landed in Bengaluru today.
The C-17 transport aircraft has been airlifted off the coast of California with NASA-ISRO’s Synthetic Aperture (NISAR) satellite for a joint mission to measure changes in the Earth’s crust and surface. global ice with

The NISAR satellite will also measure changes in Earth’s ecosystems, helping researchers understand the consequences of changes in the land’s surface.
It will also detect warning signs of natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, sea level rise, etc.
India’s space agency ISRO will use the satellite to monitor Himalayan glaciers and landslide-prone areas.
The SUV-sized satellite weighs approximately 2,800 Kg and includes both L- and S-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) equipment.
The NISAR satellite can penetrate clouds and can produce high-resolution images regardless of weather conditions.
According to NASAThe L-band SAR operates at a wavelength of 24 cm, allowing more penetration into the forests for more interaction between the radar signal and large tree trunks and branches.
The S-band SAR operates at wavelengths shorter than 12 cm and can see through objects such as clouds and forest canopy leaves that interfere with different types of devices.
The satellite will likely be launched in 2024 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh into near-polar orbit.
