UP’s Malick Diouf set to be named UAAP MVP for Season 85
MANILA, Philippines—Malick Diouf of the University of the Philippines will be named the MVP of the UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament after topping the statistical points race at the end of the knockout round.
Diouf beat Ateneo’s Forthsky Padrigao and Ange Kouame in the MVP race with 73,857 SP while Padrigao was 71,571 and Kouame was 70,786.
As it stands, the legendary men’s team will include Diouf, Padrigao, University of the East’s Luis Villegas (69,857), Ateneo’s Dave Ildefonso (64,929) and UP’s Carl Tamayo (63,429).
First Round SP Leader Schonny Winston of La Salle dropped to 9th in the MVP race after missing several games in the second round due to a nagging calf injury.
However, his teammate, Kevin Quiambao, will be named Rookie of the Year with 56.52 SP.
In the women’s category, Eka Soriano of the University of Santo Tomas claimed the MVP title of the tournament by an overwhelming win with 92,286 SP.
The five legends in the women’s play are established as Soriano, Ateneo’s Kacey Dela Rosa (77.0) and Jhazmin Joson (74,714), Adamson’s Victoria Adeshina (72,214) and fellow Growling Tigress Tacky Tacatac (73,429).
Soriano and UST will face off against the De La Salle Lady Archers in a mortal game to determine who will make it to the Finals while Diouf and the Fighting Maroons have an appointment with the National University in the Finals.
