Original story, 12/16/21:

Square Enix has temporarily halted sales of Final Fantasy XIV due to an ongoing Endwalker congestion issue.

The company has also offered more free game time to players who own the game or have an active subscription, for another 14 days. 1st out of seven announced last week. This news comes from a FFXIV Lodestone Blog Post made yesterday by director and producer Naoki Yoshida. The original Yoshida issued a warning about Endwalker congestion expected in November and as expected, the servers filled up instantly, with some players lined up with over 5000 people ahead.

However, it is not surprising considering MMO added 1 million new players before Endwalker launched.

“We apologize for the continued congestion that has occurred since Early Access and the official launch of Endwalker,” Yoshida wrote in the blog post. “It has been almost two weeks since Early Access started and players are still experiencing significant bottlenecks when logging into the game. As we have new content set to release in upcoming patches, I wanted to give you some updates on our plans to address these issues. ”

Anyone who owns FFXIV and has an active subscription as of December 21, when Patch 6.01 is set to go live, will be eligible to play the game for 14 days for free. Yoshida also said that “due to the densely concentrated hours of play that far outstrips our server capacity, especially during peak times,” the sale and distribution of both the Beginner Edition and the Edition Edition FFXIV’s completion has been temporarily stopped.

“Also, while those with an active subscription get priority login, Free Trial players can’t sign in outside of late hours and early mornings, so we’re suspending new signups for Free trial,” wrote Yoshida. “This suspension will be lifted over the next few days as we work with our retail partners.”

Ads for FFXIV have now been paused, although Yoshida noted that some ads cannot be paused due to the nature of how they are set up. However, the Collector’s Edition Digital Upgrades and Expansion Packs will still be available to existing players.

The director also reconfirmed that if everything goes as planned, Patch 6.05, aka Pandaemonium: Asphodelos (Savage), will still be released on January 4, 2022.

“We understand there are concerns about the First World races and progress in the first week, but Update 6.05 will add some new elements, such as the addition of a new Allagan tombstone , new crafting recipes, as well as a new treasure hunt dungeon, Excitatron 600,” according to Yoshida.

Elsewhere in the blog post, Yoshida said Square Enix hopes to have a roadmap for its plans involving a new logical data center and additional server worlds in January.
