UP routs FEU for back to back wins in UAAP women’s basketball

MANILA, Philippines – The University of the Philippines clinched its first win in seven years after dominating Far Eastern University, 73-56, for its second win in Saturday’s UAAP Season 85 women’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum .

Rookie Kaye Pesquera sparked a boom in the second half of Fighting Maroons, scoring 20 of 22 points in the final two quarters to claim a second straight win since UAAP Season 78 in 2015.

It was also UP’s first win over the FEU since 2016 as the old team battled back from a 16-point deficit in the third quarter, opening a 24-3 win to take a 50-45 lead and never again. Now look back in the fourth period.

Meanwhile, Dindy Medina hit four trebles to finish with 23 points as Adamson University took its first win after beating Oriental University, 97-69.

Besides Medina, who also had four steals in just 15 minutes of play, Rose Dampios also brought in Lady Falcons with 15 points on a 5/6 shot. Angela Alaba scored 10 points in less than 10 minutes of play, while Victoria Adeshina scored six and won 11.

“We are very happy but there is not much to celebrate because this is just our first win. We have a lot of work to do because we suffered tough losses in the first two games,” said Adamson coach Brian Gorospe as his team improved to 1-2 with FEU, the match. match they will face on Wednesday.

The Lady Falcons shot 52.7% from the field and provided 27 assists as they led 24 in the first half, 33-9.
