UP ATS nabs man ‘tasked by JeM to kill Nupur Sharma’ | India News


LUCKNOW: The UP Police Counter Terrorism Team (ATS) nabbed a man identified as Mohammed on Friday Nadeem from Saharanpur following news that he was accused of carrying out terrorism based in Pakistan, Jaish-e-Muhammed bid to kill BJP spokesman suspended Nupur Sharma for her controversial remarks against Prophesy.
Nadeem contacted JeM and Tahreek-e-Taliban, especially JeM Saifullah from Pakistan through social networks, ADG (law and order) Prashant Kumar said. JeM terrorists trained Nadeem to carry out an attack on May 17, the officer said. “During the initial interrogation, he confessed that he was tasked with killing Nupur Sharma.”
“Nadeem has undergone an explosives course and is in the process of gathering materials to create IEDs aimed at government buildings and police offices,” Kumar said.
According to the officer, a PDF document titled ‘Force Fidae explosives course’ was found in the suspect’s mobile phone. “Investigators are trying to figure out what this document contains. In addition, chats and voice messages from listed JeM agents and members of terrorist organizations based in Pakistan and Afghanistan were also found, some of which date back to 2018, “Kumar said.
ATS sources said Nadeem used social media platforms like TelegramFacebook Messenger and Club House to stay in touch with individuals across the border, using 30 virtual numbers over voice over internet protocol (VIOP).
“Nadeem has also confessed that terrorists from JeM and other terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan invited him to Pakistan for physical training first,” Kumar said. Nadeem had planned to visit Pakistan on a valid visa and then to Egypt, Syria and Afghanistan.
ATS ADG Naveen Arora says police have Nadeem’s name and contact details in India. Suspicious contacts will be questioned and action will be taken against those found to be involved.
ATS arrested Sabauddin Azmi, 24, in Mubarakpur of Azamgarh three days ago for planning an IED explosion on Independence Day. ATS alleges that Azmi was in contact with an Islamic State employer listed and subscribed to the outfit’s official Telegram channel.
