The UN is committed to continuing to provide aid to the most vulnerable children, women and men, consistent with the principles of humanity, neutrality, equity and independence.
Access to health care is limited or non-existent, with many centers closed and access to the area limited by health workers, while food and water supplies are in short supply.
“UN humanitarian agencies are providing immediate life-saving assistance at Cité Soleil,” said Ms. Richardson, “but there is a need to find a more holistic and sustainable approach for the medium and long term development of this iconic commune, where there is strong human potential, to be able to satisfy unmet needs; this should include the protection and return of dignified life to its inhabitants. “

Need assessment
The UN has provided direct support to the most vulnerable based on a joint needs assessment conducted by IOM, UNICEF and WFP at Cité Soleil.
It is working with Haiti’s civil protection agency (DGPC), Office for the Protection of Citizens (OPC), Foundation for Economic and Social Assistance (FAES), other local and government agencies as well as other organizations to provide a more comprehensive response to vulnerable communities.
