Ultimate Audio Bang #26: Does Overwatch really need a sequel?



In this week’s episode of Top soundWe give our impressions of Overwatch 2 and discuss whether Overwatch really needs a “2” at the end of it.

Hayden and I thought we wouldn’t have much to talk about when it came to Overwatch 2, but it eventually branched out into a conversation about the nature of live service sequels. We look at MMOs with their subscriptions and expansions, and whether it’s a strategy that only works for PVE games or if it will work for a competitive shooter like Overwatch.

The conversation then dives into competitors like Life and League of Legendsand how they handle growth. Is Overwatch’s viewability to blame? Is there really anything to worry about? Or will Overwatch 2, in fact, keep its player base for years to come? So many questions and so many put Hayden in their place.

Then towards the end, we look at the upcoming PVE component of Overwatch 2 (scheduled for 2023) and whether it has legs. And if it has legs, will it be enough to sustain the game for a year with major launches

Activision Blizzard is still competing with legal issue and report allegations of workplace discrimination, harassment and poor working conditions.
