Ukraine asks Apple to stop selling products and block access to the App Store in Russia


Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine has call Apple stopped selling its products and closed the App Store in Russia. Mykhailo Fedorov, who is also the country’s Minister of Digital Transformation, asked Tim Cook to support the tech giant in a letter. “The whole world is repelling the aggressor through the imposition of sanctions – the enemy suffers considerable losses… [I]In 2022, modern technology is probably the best answer for tanks, multiple rocket launchers and rockets,” he wrote in an attempt to convince the Apple executive.

Russia launched an all-out military offensive into Ukraine early Thursday, entering the country from three sides and attacking on land, air and sea. It bombed major cities of the country, including the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, shoot with rockets on Friday morning. In response to the invasion, the US government and its allies revealed new sanctions against Russia’s blocking of export access in hopes of limiting its military and technological capabilities. In addition, sanctions are targeting Russian oligarchs by restricting their ability to do business in dollars, euros, pounds and yen.

Fedorov concluded his letter to Cook, which he posted on Twitter, with what Ukraine hopes will happen if Apple pulls out of Russia: “We are sure that such actions will promote youth and active population Russia’s initiative to prevent a shameful act of military aggression.” Cook has previously said that Apple is doing all it can for its teams in Ukraine and “will support local humanitarian efforts,” but the company has yet to publicly respond to his pleas.
