Ubisoft games are coming back to Steam



Several Ubisoft games are heading to Steam, signaling a return to Valve’s store for publishers. In a statement to EurogamerUbisoft has confirmed that their historic open-world Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will arrive on Steam on December 6. It will be followed by other games from the publisher, though only so far RTS Anno 1800 and the free-to-play Roller Champions skater are touted.

A publisher spokesperson said: “We’re constantly evaluating how we get our games to reach different audiences wherever they are, while providing a consistent ecosystem of players through Ubisoft Connect. “. Maybe the success of Valve’s Steam Deck caught Ubisoft’s attention. Back in the summer of 2021, the company’s CEO Yves Guillemot said they would consider put the game on the handheld “if it’s big”. Ubisoft is just the most recent major publisher to bring their games back to Steam, following from activated launched Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 on storefronts in recent weeks.

Ubisoft largely abandoned Steam in 2019 in favor of their own and exclusive to the Epic Games Store starting with The Division 2. At the time, Ubisoft comment The deal with Epic is “positive in the long run”, with Epic receiving a smaller share of the game’s revenue than Valve. The most notable interaction between Ubisoft and Steam recently is the publisher shutting down online features for many of their old games early last month.
