Uber installs 700 fast chargers in London
Uber has announced that it is working with Newham, Brent and Redbridge county councils to install 700 fast chargers in London, boosting the capital’s charging network by more than 7%.
While aimed primarily at keeping Uber drivers moving, chargers will also be provided for general use. The scheme is part of a £5m investment from Uber in the hope of improving access to street charging and tackling air pollution.
Uber Nordic General Manager Jamie Heywood said: “Drivers often tell me that being able to access a reliable charging source close to their home is crucial to their decision to switch to EVs. their. By targeting investments where they are needed most, we are confident that thousands more drivers will switch to electricity.”
Later this year, Uber will expand its ‘Uber Green’ tram-only option to all of London – meaning Uber customers will be able to ‘buy’ an electric car from anywhere in the city for a low price. equivalent to an internal combustion alternative.
Uber also recently announced that it has been working with British car manufacturer Arrival, to purpose-built EV for a ride-hailing company. The appearance has suggested that the car will go on sale next year.
