MANILA, Philippines – Zavier Lucero isn’t worried about extending his extra games into the second round as he continues to focus on what’s best for the University of the Philippines during the UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball tournament.

After emerging as a No. 2 candidate in the MVP race With 67.0 statistical points, the Filipino-American player had a rather quiet second half, averaging 7.6 points and 7.0 rebounds in the past three games.

Lucero, who has an impressive average in the first eight games with 15.4 points, 8.3 goals, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.0 said: blocks.

The high-flying forward ended his slump on Tuesday, dropping 20 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks as UP Routing Oriental University is also operated, 81-68, to secure at least 2nd seed in post-season.

But he insists his stellar play will not determine UP’s fate as their team is always geared towards a collective effort.

“We won for the most part, we dropped a game. Not getting to the same level as I did in the first inning, that’s part of basketball. Can’t look too much deeper than that,” he said.

Fighting Maroons regain their momentum with an improved 10-2 record after winning head-to-head games against La Salle and UE since their eight-game winning streak was stopped by Adamson.

With two games remaining against the University of Santo Tomas on Tuesday and facing undefeated Ateneo on Sunday, Lucero said UP will continue to forge a stronger relationship as they prepare for the Finals.

“We’ve been talking a lot lately about just trying to build, especially out of Adamson’s loss, just trying to build and gain momentum,” he said. “It’s all about the final games going to the knockouts. The trick is to just keep growing and keep building. ”
