MANILA, Philippines – University of Santo Tomas head coach Kungfu Reyes hopes to welcome back midfielder Imee Hernandez when the Golden Tigers face the University of the Philippines on Tuesday.

Hernandez hurt her left ankle in the first set of UST’s opening win over Far Eastern University on Thursday.

“Hopefully she will recover. At least 50 percent, she will be able to play,” Reyes said in Filipino on Saturday.

Hernandez missed the Tigresses’ consecutive win over the University of the East on Saturday by a 2-0 scoreline.

“She can now walk without crutches so that is a good sign. There are only certain exercises that she needs to work out,” says Reyes.

Eya Laure led UST with 18 points while Camille Victoria ranked 13th. Kecelyn Galdones and Ysabel Jimenez also increased by seven points each.

“In our team culture, when someone gets injured, everyone else steps up,” says Laure.

If given a break, the return of Hernandez will certainly help a lot for the Tigers when they host the Fighting Maroons, who are also unbeaten after 2 matches.
