MANILA, Philippines – Trisha Genesis didn’t let Adamson down when it mattered most, helping her team survive the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament.

Adamson and Ateneo, who both finished the season with 8-6 records, will clash in a no playoff tomorrow for number 4 on Saturday.

Fighting for their dear lives, Genesis settled the matter himself with 20 points when Adamson annoyed La Salle, 25-23, 17-25, 25-16, 26-24, for a playoff ticket to the Final Final on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“I don’t want to give up. I don’t want my team to be disappointed even after my match is over, especially in the first set,” said Genesis, who broke down in tears during his post-match press conference.

“I’ve always kept in mind that I’m not going to give this game to La Salle because it’s now or never.”

Coach Adamson, Lerma Giron and all of the Lady Falcons were emotional as they fell to their knees after beating Lady Spikers for the first time since 2018 – when Jema Galanza and Mylene Paat stunned in the lineup led by Ramil de Jesus train.

“We are very emotional because our team has been through so much during this pandemic from last season until now. Everyone sacrifices for their teammates. And it’s a relief that we are on the right path to the Finals,” said Giron in Filipino.

Now that they’ve had a second chance, Giron said her team has no plans to squander this opportunity to send Adamson back to the semifinals for the first time in eight years.

“We have to work hard for that playoff,” Giron said. “They just have to embrace their responsibilities. I’m proud of these women, they don’t give up even though it’s difficult to score points and we even chase.”
