MANILA, Philippines—Fifi Sharma wants to show off his presence in frontline control of La Salle against Adamson in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Center.
Sharma imposed his will, scoring a season-high six to finish with 12 and keep La Salle unbeaten in six games with a scoreline 22-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 win over Adamson.
“My goal is to improve my blocking. I think I’m lucky today to be able to put what we’ve done into practice in the last few games,” said Sharma after teaming up with fellow mid laner Thea Gagate to combine for 11 block.
Sharma, the daughter of former PBA player Carlo, said the Lady Spikers made the most of their one-week prep process against the rising Lady Falcons, who won three games in a row before their game. Surname.
“Overall, I’m really proud of how we performed today because we knew we were prepared for this during halftime,” she said. “Everybody gave 100% of their effort throughout the training process. It was just a different feeling when I entered the courthouse. I was like, I’m ready to fight today.
Adamson beat La Salle in the second round last year and in the preliminary round of Shakey’s Super League. Sharma said they are just consistent with the goal of winning every match.
“Actually, our goal in every game is to win. We also want to get them back from our previous games. But our main goal was to win and I think we got there today,” she said.
Sharma anchored 14 blocks of Lady Spikers while holding off stopper 2 Lady Falcons by just one block.
La Salle coach Noel Orcullo said his teams need to continue to play to their strengths.
“We have to play to our strengths. We are number one in containment so we have to embrace it. We have to do our job at the front,” Orcullo said in Filipino.
La Salle will be tested against the defending champion National University, who is looking to complete a first-round pass on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
