MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo is far from satisfied after winning the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament.

Instead of going to the post-match press conference, Almadro went straight to the training ground and had a conversation that lasted 40 minutes even though they Win 25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 25-10 via the University of the East on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Almadro has high expectations for the game, eager to atone for his consecutive loss to National University last Saturday.

“Ah, I was just repeating the details. I detailed why it happened. maybe I expected too much from this match because we wanted to come back convincingly,” Almadro said in Filipino.

“In the first two sets and especially the third set. I didn’t see the things I wanted to see, especially in the implementation of our skills and fundamentals. I detailed the things that we need to improve in the next games if we want to win,” he added.

Faith Nisperos, who scored 14 points to lead the Blue Eagles’ balanced attack, admitted “their performance wasn’t what it should be”.

“What we need to do is strengthen our organization within. We were not able to deliver the performance we wanted, which we were able to do in reality,” Nisperos said in Filipino. “It’s just a matter of how we show that in the game. I have no doubts about my team. It’s just that it’s our time and effort.

After failing to wipe out the game after Lady Red Warriors stole the set, Ateneo worked together to dominate the fourth game and improve his record to 1-1. The captain attributed to their coach who lit the fire for them

“In the fourth set, I will credit Coach O. He told us to have a goal. We just follow it and affirm our will to win. I also said to my teammates: Girls, we can do it. We just want it and we can do it,” Nisperos said. “We showed that in the fourth season.”

Ateneo will face the strongest rival La Salle, who have won their first two games, on Sunday at the MOA Arena.

The Nisperos see their overwhelming victory as an opportunity to push themselves.

“It won’t relax us. It will make us work harder and push us to learn more. We will study our movements and everything. That’s how I look at the game today. It was an opportunity and of course, it opened the eyes of the whole team,” said Nisperos.
