Via Charles Brun: Tyson Fury is adamant about his decision to retire and stay in retirement regardless of the money being offered to return to the ring to fight rematch winner Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk later this year.
At the same time, Fury is not opposed to the idea of returning to the ring for a big money show against the UFC heavyweights Francis Ngannou. That’s the weird part about Fury retiring.
Despite saying that no amount of money will lure him back to the ring, he has no problem returning to fight against Ngannou in an exhibition.
The money Fury has will make fighting Ngannou in a one-sided mismatch far more likely than he’s ever earned in his career. That could be one of the reasons why Fury rushed to announce his fight with Ngannou last Saturday night. It looks like Fury Can’t wait to start the fight with Ngannou.
The difference when Fury fights 35-year-old Ngannou in a boxing match that is less than hybrid rule is that he won’t have to face a highly skilled boxer who can embarrass him the way Usyk and Joshua can.
Fury needs to leave his WBC title blank
As good as Fury is against Dillian Whyte, he’s there going to be hit by the inner tops every time he moves in to grab him in an iron grip. Joshua will chop off Fury’s head on the inside if he starts a habit of bear-like aggression against him.
Dangerous Joshua is on the inside with his strong top lane, and he’s going to take away Fury’s mauling game. On the surface, Joshua possesses a much better cross than Fury, and his left and right hooks are deadly.
It seems terrible that Fury will retire without a fight with Joshua or Usyk, and many fans are less than happy about his decision. If Fury is going to retire, he needs to do it and strip his WBC belt rather than pull it off.
Fans want Fury to strip him of his WBC belt this week if he’s serious about retiring rather than rambling on about how he did this or that and how he didn’t need the money.
“My time is to play at the top, and I’ve always said that I wanted to give up the sport and do it on my terms,” Tyson Fury said. Piers Morgan Uncensored when asked why he took a break from competing at the top of the game.
