Tyson Fury has decided to “retire”, which should come as no surprise to those who have been watching boxing for more than 10 minutes.
Even so, the heavyweight champion’s clear selection of opponents while he waits to chase the winner of the upcoming Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua fight might raise your eyebrows.
Fury clearly wants to face Derek Chisora, a 38-year-old whom he has easily defeated twice. Chisora narrowly beat Kubrat Pulev last month but he has lost three matches before that.
The fight will take place in December at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, according to ESPN.
The agency reports that representatives of Fury and Chisora have begun negotiations but have yet to reach an agreement. The talks went public as Fury snapped Chisora on Instagram.
“You’re running Derek, from the trilogy,” Fury said. “You call yourself ‘War’ but you should call yourself chicken because you’re running from a trilogy and from a career high paying day. Let’s sign that f—— contract. “
Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) has also indicated that he will be coached by longtime training partner Isaac Lowe, though it’s unclear if that will be a permanent move. He worked with SugarHill Steward.
