Via Barry Holbrook: Dave Allen and Matthew Hatton are picking WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury to face Dillian Whyte on April 23 in their bout at a sold-out Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Like many, Allen and Hatton feel that Fury is on a different level of talent than Whyte, 34, who was knocked down in the fifth round by healthy 41-year-old Alexander Povetkin in their first bout. in 2020.
Dillian has complained a lot in recent years about not being given the chance to challenge for a world title, but now he finally has a chance to prove himself.
If he fails to raise his game by April 23, he will be unboxed by Fury and put in a position where he may never get another title.
You have to believe Whyte won’t have any favors for him if he loses this fight as other promoters show an interest in combining their fighters against him.
Whyte (28-2, 19 KOs) did a great job playing the mind game by opting out to help fuel the fight against Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs), but that won’t Help him stay inside the ring.
It would be better for Whyte to help raise his profile by showing his personality in the build-up so more boxing fans will be interested in watching his future fights if he comes out as a loser.
Fury is better than Dillian in every department
“No, I think Tyson Fury is on a whole different level than Dillian Whyte,” Dave Allen told Boxing BBTV. “Dillian Whyte is a good fighter. He’s very good. Dillian Whyte doesn’t get credit for the career he’s had.
“Just because he hasn’t won that world title, people think [he’s not done well]. He beat Browne, he beat Parker, he beat Helenius. He’s had a brilliant career, but I think there’s a lot of wear and tear on him, to be honest.
“I think Fury is a freshman at this point, which is a crazy thing to say. I think Tyson is too big, he moves too well and hits too hard. I don’t think there is a department where Dillian Whyte is better, which makes it a difficult task for him.
“Dillian Whyte is probably the fifth or sixth heavyweight on the planet. But when you’re at #1, who I think is a lot clearer, then #5 or #6 is a steep jump. I wish you both all the best. I hope it’s a good match,” said Allen of the Fury vs. Whyte on April 23 said.
Whyte is a good slugger, but he got there at 34, and it’s unclear if he’ll ever win another world title if he doesn’t take advantage of this against Fury.
Hatton chose Fury over Whyte
“It was a good heavyweight fight, and Dillian Whyte waited a long time for this big fight and big night, which he totally deserved,” said Matthew Hatton. Boxing BBTV.
“A few years ago he was a real player, and I think he still is. I think we’ve seen some signs of wear and tear with Dillian. I’ve seen him in both [Alexander] Povetkin fights, which I watched closely.
“Of course he is dangerous, but I struggle to think how he beat Tyson. Again, you never know with the heavyweight division, but I reckon Tyson Fury was pretty strong to win that bout.
“It’s going to be a great night, great number of tickets, great atmosphere. It will be a good fight, but I can only see one winner. I think Tyson will stop him in the middle rounds,” Hatton said.
