Tyson Fury in talks to face winner of Joshua-Usyk rematch–report
WBC heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury is in talks to take on the winner of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk despite repeated talk of hanging up his gloves, the Daily Mail reports.
Fury knocked out fellow Briton Dillian Whyte in front of a sold-out crowd at Wembley Stadium in April to retain his heavyweight crown, telling fans it was unlikely he would rematch after that.
His wife, Paris, later told BT Sport that he will only return for a header merge.
Usyk defeats Joshua at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September to win the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, told the BBC that Joshua has signed to fight Usyk in a rematch in Saudi Arabia in August, with an official announcement expected next week.
The match was delayed several times after Usyk returns home to Ukraine joined a battalion defending the territory after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow called a “special military operation”.
“(Joshua) understands that in a war of this magnitude, everything takes time. Took time but we’re in a great place. He trained throughout, so did Oleksandr Usyk,” Hearn said on Saturday.
