Tyrus Hill’s dunk over Jamie Malonzo gets perfect mark, but not enough for title
PASSI CITY – David Murrell may have won the PBA Slam Dunk competition, but some would say Tyrus Hill won the night.
Hill’s dribble against Jamie Malonzo will probably be something fans inside the City of Passi Arena here will remember even as rookie Blackwater has to witness Murrell takes the title and a cash prize of P30,000.
It took a lot of convincing before Malonzo agreed to stand in the free zone and set up the Blackwater rookie leap over the famous Barangay Ginebra cage.
“He was scared at first,” says Hill. “But I told him, ‘I’m going to jump over you. Do not push off and prefer to be safe. I’ll just jump over you.’
“So I got motivated and just jumped over. We were all shocked. There are 50 so it’s all good,” Hill added.
Even a perfect score from a jury that included PBA legend Allan Caidic and former dunk participant Noli Locsin couldn’t stop Murrell from entering the event.

He lamented, “I put my score down, but I think I got it. We both thought I had it. He beat me by one point so that’s it.
Hill has plenty of reasons to be pleased with Murrell, his teammate at Converge during the first two games of Season 47.
Murrell said in the middle of Hill’s interview: “That trick was crazy.
