Tyler’s Tribe gets a break from bleeding during Advent

Tim Martin, Co-Owner/Trainer of Sensory Breeds in Iowa Tyler’s Tribe says gelding will be given a 30-day break after finishing in third place as favorites in the Dec 9 Advent Stake at Oaklawn Park

As he has finished in every of his previous starts, Tyler’s Tribe took the lead under regular rider Kylee Jordan during Advent and held on to the turning point home. He got weak late to finish 3 1/2 undefeated Count Monet . 2 year old son of Sharp Azteca bled during the race that lasted 5 1/2, the second race in a row he did so.

Tyler’s Tribe entered the race for the first time since easing and disqualification after bleeding in the November 4 (G1T) Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint at Keeneland. Tyler’s Tribe raced against Lasix in his first five career starts—all by margin wins at grassland steppe—but diuretics, used by riders to control respiratory bleeding in racehorses, are banned at Breeders’ Cup, as are other race day drugs.

Tyler’s tribe received Lasix for Advent, marking his return to dirt. Oaklawn now allows Lasix to be used in races for 2-year-olds. States like Kentucky and California do not.

Martin said of the bleeding episode: “It’s not like Breeders’ Cup. “He looked pretty good, and whenever he stopped, I was like, ‘Uh oh,’ something happened.” When she pulled him up, he had blood in his nose.”

The coach said Tyler’s Tribe will spend about a month at Martin’s nearby Royal Training Center, before the gelding team resumes training so it can return to the position in the final weeks of the Oaklawn 2022 meeting- 23 ends on May 6.

“I’ll let him be a horse,” Martin said. “Maybe I’ll give him a month, just let him be a horse, then just see where he is and see what’s going on. I think we have some pretty good therapies. for that (bleeding), that we will continue.”

One race Martin could be aiming for is the $150,000 Bachelor’s Bet for the 3-year-old sprinter on April 29 in Oaklawn.

“There’s a race or two at the end of the meeting that I would look at, if he’s good,” Martin said. “We’ll give him time, more time. Some things will be late, three or four months. Just give him time and let him be ready.”

Martin has said that the Advent appearance depends on a clean colonoscopy after the December 10 job, which is gelding’s second job at Oaklawn. Martin said Tyler’s Tribe has clear range after every breeze.

“No sign, nothing,” Martin said, referring to the blood. “I wanted to take advantage of Lasix, but that didn’t work.”

Co-owned with Thomas Lepic, Tyler’s Tribe won his first five starts, including four stakes, for a total of 59 3/4.
