Two wounded in ‘terror attack’ in Jerusalem hours after deadly synagogue shooting | World News

Two people have been injured in a suspected terrorist attack in Jerusalem, hours after a deadly shooting outside a synagogue.

Israel’s National Ambulance and Emergency Medical Service said it was called to a “gun terrorist attack” on Saturday morning.

Police said a “massive” force had been dispatched to the scene and a “shooting suspect” had been neutralized.

Two men, aged 23 and 47, are believed to have been injured.

Doctors said both were taken to hospital in “moderate to severe” condition.

It comes after a Palestinian gunman shot dead seven people near a synagogue on the outskirts of the city on Friday.

Three other people were injured in that shooting, including a 15-year-old boy recovering from surgery, hospital officials said.

Police said the gunman arrived around 8:15 p.m. local time (6:15 a.m. UK time) and described the shooting as a “terrorist attack”.

They added that it took place outside a synagogue in Neve Yaakov, considered by Israelis to be a neighborhood inside Jerusalem, while Palestinians and much of the international community consider it occupied land and illegal annexation after the Six-Day War in 1967.

Police said the gunman fled in a car after opening fire and officers gave chase and after a gunfight killed him.

He is described as a 21-year-old resident of East Jerusalem who “performed the attack at the scene alone”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he held a security review and decided to “take immediate action” following Friday’s shooting.

Mr Netanyahu urged people not to arbitrarily apply the law and said Israel would act with “determination and composure”.
