With the update, for the first time reported by TechCrunch, Twitter will make recommendations for a range of third-party apps when users block or mute others. Currently, the apps include a tool that allows people to automatically block accounts that are likely sources of harassment; , can automatically moderate responses; and help users manage their mentions.
These tools are already available, but former Twitter users had to search for these services to set them up. Now, the company will introduce them in its app and website along with its own blocking and muting tools.
As TechCrunch notes, the change is also the latest sign that Twitter is once again creating inroads among third-party developers, who sometimes have tumultuous relationships with each other. Censorship apps are just a handful of a broader group of third parties Twitter is promoting as part of the improvement process . Finally, Twitter may introduce other specialized apps in different parts of its service, the company told TechCrunch, although it did not provide details.
