Twitter Blue goes global, old verified signs will be removed from April 1

Twitter will begin removing the so-called legacy verified mark from user accounts next week, as it operates under a model where only paid subscribers and members of approved organizations can that state. The San Francisco-based company said in a tweet Thursday that the move to conduct legacy verification begins April 1. It was one of the earliest policy changes announced by owners. Elon Musk, who described the current program as “spoilt” shortly after taking over late last year. Musk has changed his mind about some changes at the social network, but remains steadfast in his desire to get rid of the old verification system.

Twitter made the blue verification mark a key feature of it Blue Twitter subscription service, which Musk started pricing at $8 (roughly Rs 600) per month and now touts as the best way to both enjoy and improve the service. Musk said Twitter’s bot problem will also be resolved as more paid subscribers get in. According to the company, paying Blue users get a higher priority in responses and searches, helping to combat scams and spam. They also get half the ads and can edit the tweets.

Among those marked as verified without paying subscriptions were many public figures and journalists. In the years that Twitter ran before Musk, that system helped confirm the veracity of statements and reports coming from those accounts and made Twitter a more reliable source of news.

Musk’s aversion to the previous system is often fabricated in the context of his disdain for members of the media, who tend to be Twitter’s most active verified users. This month, he set the [email protected] email address to auto-reply with the poop emoji, after it had largely ignored queries from journalists in previous months.
