He said Trump’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, was being interviewed Thursday by the House’s select committee investigating the Capitol riots.

Mulvaney interviewed the panel in person, he told CNBC in an email.

CBS News, where Mulvaney works as a contributor, first reported that his interview will take place

Mulvaney, 55 years old, told the press last week that he believes former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson and other former officials testified about the former President Donald Trump and his actions on January 6, 2021, when a mob of his supporters infiltrated the halls of Parliament.

Mulvaney also said Trump should not seek a third term.

“I don’t want him running. I don’t want to. Because we don’t need him anymore,” the former South Carolina Republican congressman said.

Mulvaney has held many roles in the Trump administration, first as director of the Office of Management and Budget. For most of his time in that role, he was also acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Mulvaney then served as acting Chief of Staff to Trump from January 2019 to March 2020, when the president ousted him and replaced him with then-congressman Mark Meadows. Trump later appointed him as special envoy for Northern Ireland.

Mulvaney resigned from that role the day after the riotstold CNBC that he called then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “I can’t stay” after the uprising broke out.

“Those who choose to stay, and I’ve talked to some of them, are choosing to stay because they’re worried the president might make someone worse,” Mulvaney told CNBC at the time.
