If there’s one thing that always catches my eye, it’s a jacket with personality. A good jacket feels like it’s always ready to share an adventure or help you make an impression. Just last weekend, I stumbled across a coat that was new to me.
Here’s the story: I’m hanging out with my friend Pyung, can you known as a contributor to Primer. You know what kind of friend always seems to have that device you’re going to ask about? And it’s usually some great random find that’s a good deal. That’s Pyung. So naturally, when he showed up in this perfectly muted bark brown coat, I was curious, especially since I noticed lightweight jackets and couldn’t put the one on. this jacket. “Pyung, where did you get this?” He excitedly shared his find and told me it came from Tecovas and he saw it on sale for $99.
Just $99 for a waxed cotton trucker jacket? That seems too good to be true, considering the things we’ve suggested before, such as Rogue Territory Supply Jacket (favored by Bond and Ryan Reynolds) and Trucker Waxed Flint & Tinder Jacket (worn by Pedro Pascal in ‘The Last of Us’), comes with a price of +$200. They’re definitely worth it, but let’s face it – the triple-digit price tag can make your wallet wrinkled. So I searched for it and it’s still there on sale for $99 down from $165 and still available in all sizes, from small to XXL. So I asked Pyung to share some photos so you can see what it looks like in real life.
The driver jacket became iconic by Levi’s Type III Jacket. Known for their effortless cool style, no regard for authority, and their cropped, waist-length, tailored fit and signature buttons, these pants jacket style had a pretty good journey, Persistence through different trends and the color.
That said, not all trucker jackets are created equal. What sets the Tecovas wax jacket apart when I try on Pyung’s jacket is its fit. I found Pyung’s mid-size jacket to fit well, not too thin but still fit. It looks great on him simple intelligence outfit and it seems that it can be easily combined with anyone’s wardrobe. And yes, that means even if you wear black a lot.
Made from 100% waxed cotton, this jacket offers better style, durability, and water resistance than denim variants. This one doesn’t wrinkle or crease like some wax coats, that can be a downside if you crave the quintessential waxy canvas finish that tells the stories of your exploits.
The Tecovas brand is based in Austin, Texas and is primarily known for its modern western boots. One of the main differences besides the styling details is that this jacket is made in Turkey, without the “Made in USA” stamp like the Flint & Tinder or Rogue Territory versions.
Wax coats have their downsides. They can only be treated topically and may need re-hair removal after a few years. But I still haven’t had to worry about that with the three I’ve had for years.
In the end, here’s my take: The Tecovas Wax Cotton Trucker Jacket is a great find for just $99. It has the look, a famous brand behind it and the price point. And while it doesn’t replace the quality of your $200+ jackets, for a guy who can’t justify it, this one is just more expensive than a denim jacket.
