The day after work that many of his 2-year-olds are expected to compete in Future Stars’ Friday races during the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on November 4 in Keeneland, the coach Todd Pletcher gave his old horses a break on Friday. The trio, led by MGISW Life Is Good (Into Mischief), the champion Malathaat (Curlin), and Nest won the MGISW (Curlin), is scheduled to compete for the Breeders’ Cup on November 5.
Not long after 9 a.m., GI Breeders’ Cup Classic Life Is Good contender CHC Inc. and WinStar Farm unleashed 5 feathers on the fast track at 1:00.40 for his first run since scoring the win in GI Woodward S. at Belmont at the Big A Oct. 1. Life Is Good won the GI Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile last year in Del Mar.
“Super,” Pletcher said of Life Is Good. “Pretty much what we expected from him. He makes everything so easy. He doesn’t look like he’s doing anything, but you look at his watch and he comes home at: 23 years old and changed.”
Shadwell Stable’s Malathaat and Repole Stable, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Michael House’s Nest worked together at around 7:30 a.m. They cover half a mile in: 48.60, making splits: 25.40, :48.60 and out in 1:1, 1:14.20 and 1:28.80.
“We’re just looking for more of the same things,” Pletcher said. “They are two wonderful people – kind and straightforward horses. It was just a half-mile maintenance with both of them leaving the race 12 days ago with a goal of 15 days from now. Looks like they’re in great shape. Both seemed to love the race track this morning again.”
Both teams won on October 9 with Malathaat taking the GI Juddmonte Spinster S. at Keeneland and Nest catching GII Beldame S. in Belmont at Big A. Both are being pointed at the GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
