Toyota revealed the new Innovation Zenix in the international market, and it will launch in India as Innova Hycross This weekend. The Hycross will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta, but it is essentially the next generation of the Innova. We compare the two models to highlight their differences on paper.
New vs old Toyota Innova: exterior
The design of Innova Hycross is very different from Innova Crysta. Both have a hexagonal front grille, but the Hycross has a honeycomb style while the Crysta has more horizontal slats. The Hycross even has wraparound headlights, which are slimmer than the Crysta, but now they’re all LEDs divided by a chrome divider.
The front bumper of the Innova Hycross has a slim air intake just below the grille, and houses the horizontal LED daytime running lights (DRL) in a triangular housing. The Crysta, on the other hand, has turn signals in a triangular box below the headlights.

Viewed from the side, the Hycross has two distinctive creases that run the length of the doors and merge at the taillights. On the Crysta, the shoulder line is the only accent line, starting at the headlights and ending at the top of the taillights. The greenhouse on Hycross seems to be as big as Crysta. However, on the Hycross it tapers towards the shoulder line, while on the latter it tapers upwards.
At the rear, the taillights surround the Hycross sport with reverse and reverse indicator lights, the taillights themselves being connected by a chrome strip. Crysta has an inverted L-shaped taillight design, with the indicator lights placed on the bottom half. However, both MPVs have a third brake light in the spoiler.
New Toyota Innova vs old: size
The Hycross is 4,755mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,795mm tall with a 2,850mm wheelbase. The Innova Crysta is 4,735 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,795 mm high with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This makes the Hycross a bit larger in most dimensions, except for the height – which is similar – compared to the Crysta.

New vs old Toyota Innova: interior
Inside, Hycross has a completely new design compared to Crysta. The main difference is the addition of a standalone touchscreen mounted at the top of the dashboard, with a central AC vent underneath. Crysta equips a touch screen in the center of the dashboard, flanked by a central AC vent.
While the Crysta features buttons and air conditioning dials, the Innova Hycross has only buttons. The gear lever on the Hycross has been integrated into the dashboard, while it is floor mounted in the Innova Crysta. And while the Innova Crysta only has an analog instrument cluster, the Hycross will have an analog and digital instrument cluster, depending on the variant.
The colors in the interior of the Hycross are similar to the colors Toyota uses on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder – black and brown. The Crysta has a black and beige interior color scheme while the Hycross will have an all-black interior. Hycross also has a new steering wheel that is completely different from the Crysta.
Another major difference between the two is the fact that the Hycross has a sunroof – a panoramic one anyway – which is a first for an Innova in India. While the Hycross and Crysta have AC vents for the rear passenger seats, the ones on the Hycross are located above the windows.
New Toyota Innova vs old: powertrain
The Innova Crysta is offered with a 2.7-liter gasoline engine and, until recently, a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The Hycross will have two petrol engines – a 2.0 liter petrol engine and a 2.0 liter powerful hybid petrol engine. Although the ARAI-certified figures are yet to be revealed. The hybrid unit is expected to yield a energy saving of 20-23kpl. Similar to the Hyryder, the Hycross is also expected to come with an electric-only mode on the more powerful hybrid variants.
