Toyota Innova Hycross confirmed to have a self-charging hybrid powertrain
Toyota India is gearing up to launch the new generation of Innova MPV on November 25. It will be called the Innova Hycross and is expected to be sold alongside the current Innova Crysta. Toyota has released teasers ahead of the MPV’s launch. The latest teaser confirms that the Innova Hycross will come with a self-charging hybrid powertrain, meaning the powertrain on offer will come with hybrid technology.
Other teaser images of the Innova Hycross have revealed the SUV-inspired design language. At the front there is a large grille surrounded by LED headlights and daytime running lights. The bonnet is flat and has creases that give the Innova Hycross an SUV look. At the rear, there will be LED taillights.

At the moment, the powertrain of the Innova Hycross is unknown. However, it could be a powerful new 2.0-liter hybrid as the current powerful 1.5-liter hybrid on duty on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder wouldn’t have enough power for an MPV. This time, the Hycross will only be offered with the petrol engine. Toyota has stopped accepting pre-orders for the diesel powertrain for the Innova Crysta.
Toyota Innova Hycross is based on an all-new chassis that is expected to be a monocoque. Using a monolithic chassis meant that it was necessary to improve ride quality, handling and rollability. It is highly likely that the Innova Hycross will be front-wheel drive, which means there will be no transmission tunnel, increasing legroom for rear passengers. There will be no loss of powertrain as the force is not transmitted to the rear wheel. Furthermore, fuel efficiency will also be better as the Innova Hycross is expected to be sold with mild hybrid or strong hybrid powertrain.
