Toyota Hyryder hybrid SUV review, road test: price, design, engine, performance – Introduction
We comprehensively tested Toyota’s newest SUV to see if it had what it took to break into the midsize market.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara are the by-products of Toyota and Suzuki’s global alliance to share technology and design. Co-developed by Toyota, a pioneer in hybrid technology, and Maruti, a master of economical engineering, these midsize SUVs compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.
At the heart of this story is the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and its standout hybrid powertrain, which buyers are liking, especially because of the high fuel economy numbers. There’s also a mild hybrid engine with manual and automatic transmissions, as well as an all-wheel drive variant to appeal to a wider audience. When we drove it back last September, it impressed us with its perfection. We now evaluate it meticulously to see if this Toyota has what it takes to become a segment leader.
